Beautiful Van der Meulen sea scow. Most Van der Meulen boats are built in wood, but this steel ship is an exception. Van der Meulen chimneys are known for their beautiful sails and good sailing characteristics. this ship is no exception to that. The ship has extra trim options and sails so it will compete well in sailing competitions. For example, it has an extensive racing sail wardrobe.
Inside there is a practical galley with stove and refrigerator and plenty of storage space. There is ample seating in the cabin with a fine table and benches. The koekoek provides pleasant light. Further forward is the toilet, storage space for clothes and a double berth. Above the berth is a third berth across where a child could sleep.
In 2020/21, the exterior was almost completely stripped bare and repainted with a primer and 7 coats of varnish, the woodwork was also completely repainted. The teak on the cabin roof was completely removed in 2021/22 and the steel under the teak was completely de-rusted and rebuilt in a new 2 component paint system. Then the original teak deck was reinstalled so that it can last at least 20 years again. The gunwale is equipped with a stainless steel carpet pad and had no problems so it could remain in place. However, all woodwork was stripped bare and repainted with sufficient layer thickness. The engine also had a major service: the fuel tank was cleaned and all hoses and rubbers were renewed. A new alternator has also been installed. Switchboard and part of the electrical wiring has been renewed, as well as the batteries and the charge controller (Victron). The power wires have been coded.
